APA Raises $16,000 for Free Clinic Project
As part of APA’S annual APA Gives Back program, APA President Maria A. Oquendo, M.D., Ph.D. (pictured above, right), presented a donation of more than $16,000 to this year’s recipient, the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic Project, at the meeting’s Opening Session. Ellen Beck, M.D. (left), co-founder and director of the Free Clinic Project, accepted the check on behalf of the organization.
The UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic Project operates four clinics in the San Diego area, providing free medical and preventive care, health education, and access to social services. In partnership with the community, the clinics provide accessible, quality health care for underserved populations in a respectful environment in which students, health professionals, patients, and community members work together.
Now in its eighth year, the APA Gives Back program provides an opportunity for APA, its members, and Annual Meeting attendees to support a community mental health organization in the city hosting the Annual Meeting. APA matches donations dollar for dollar. Since 2010, APA and members and attendees have donated more than $95,000 through the APA Gives Back program.
